1. To start, go to the “courses” tab. Found at the top of this website and select the TEFL course package.

2. Click on the “Take this course” button then checkout by clicking the “proceed to checkout button”, fill in your profile details, and you will be redirected to the secure online payment portal.

3. Choose your method of payment: Credit or Cheque Visa / Mastercard or Direct EFT by all major SA banks.

4. Once your payment is successful, you will be taken back to our website to start your 120-online TEFL course.

5. Your receipt/proof of purchase will immediately be emailed to you after payment. 

There are no requirements. All are welcome.

• An accredited 120 Hour TEFL qualification
• Ideally a native English speaker
• A degree is required in some countries
• a work visa (some countries are strict with their work permit laws)

Teaching Abroad

In some countries, it is required to have a BA degree in any field in addition to the TEFL certification. There are many other countries where a degree is not required or essential.

Online teaching

Online schools do not require you to have a degree. They do pay you according to your qualifications when starting out and eventually start paying you according to your experience.

You can work for more than one online school as an independent contractor. There are also other online teaching platforms where you can promote and work as an independent tutor for more money.

Also, you can create your own platform with a Skype connection and advertise your English tutoring services on social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google and other local advertising.

A Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification is generally required for teachers who want to teach English to non-English speakers in schools abroad or online.

It takes on average, four-five weeks to complete the 120-hour online TEFL course. 

You can complete the 120-hour course in a much quicker time if you dedicate more time to learning. However, there is no urgency to rush as you have up to 12 months access to complete your online TEFL course.

If your overall percentage score is less than 70%, you will have failed the course and, unfortunately, will not receive a certificate. You will have five more attempts to pass. If you have used up all 3 efforts and still wish to continue and try again, you will need to pay for the course again.

We will refund you 100% of your course fee if you have not accessed your course within seven days.

A TEFL online course that has been accessed via your unique login password cannot be refunded as you have had the opportunity to download, view and study/use the licenced digital course material you paid for.

If you are unable to complete the online TEFL course within six months of enrolment/payment due to illness, we will consider extending your course expiry date on request prior to the expiry date and at TEFL VARSITY management discretion.

On completion of the 120-hour TEFL course, you will be awarded your 120-hour TEFL certificate in a digital PDF format. 

Each certificate has a unique code that can be verified by the ESL employer or recruiter via TEFL VARSITY.

The TEFL VARSITY certificate is recognised and accepted by (ESL / EFL) employers schools and recruitment agencies worldwide.

If you are travelling overseas for an ESL / EFL job, you must authenticate your TEFL 120-hour TEFL certificate in South Africa or the country you reside in.

A hard copy certificate with an original signature of the TEFL course manager/principal is required to have it authenticated by the Registrar of the High Court in South Africa. This is normally carried out by a Notary Public Attorney. Notaries charge for this service. You may request your hard-copy TEFL certificate after completing your online TEFL course.

The administration office charge to print your hard-copy certificate and courier it to you in South Africa is R300.00 or $50 (USD) outside South African borders.
